I don’t know about where you are, but in the Bay Area, it seems like Miata prices on a steady rise. Gone are the days of the fairly clean $2000 miata.
Everything thing under 4k looks like something out of the dent section in the canned goods isle.

Welcome to my world!
I don’t deal in Miatas but clean, cheap Miatas in Chicago are as scarse as cheap 3 wheelers. They’re gaining popularity and it’s killing me.

Seems like the dealers in the Sacramento area have jacked up their prices on the Most Affordable Sports Car, and everyone else thinks that their baby is is worth just $1 less because theirs is great too!

Dude, never come to the PNW. Our used car prices have been so inflated for so long that I had to buy a new car to not feel like I was being ripped off. You can barely get a running car made this century for less than $4k. Anything fairly nice that you could use as a daily will be much more...
Yes I daily a Prius and I like it, hate me.

I bought my relatively clean miata w/hardtop (188k miles but 1 owner and cosmetically and up to date maintenance) for $3300 here in the bay area and sold it after owning it for about 3 years for $3300 w/o the hardtop :)
Hardtop was sold separately for $650. Funds went towards a S2000 which I still have. In 2-3 years hopefully I can sell the S2000 for 1-2k more than what I paid for it and get an Elise.

Same here in s.e. michigan. Hoping they drop come fall. Saw some decent ones for 3000 to 4500 over the winter but wasn’t ready.

Of course Miata prices are on the rise.......
Good thing it's not a very rare care. Probably the most common sports car ever. Want a clean one gotta pay. I'm glad clean ones are my 2k anymore that would just mean more and more beat up ones.

I think a huge part of it is how often they are raced. SM guys constantly need parts, donors, etc. and they jump on the cheap local cars.

Crazy...
I keep thinking that I should start a business buying cheap used cars in SoCal and shipping them up here. I could make a at least 2-3k per car without even trying.
All of these would sell for at least that much more here...
The car I moved here with that I bought 8 years prior with 60k fewer miles for $2k sold for $3k with no effort. I suspect I could have actually made more on it... How many times have you seen an old base model economy car that wasn’t a classic increase in value?
My co-workers want to give me 80-100% more for the car in my avatar than I paid for it. They offered it when I bought it and continue to periodically. Seriously, my mind is constantly blown here by high used car prices.

I’m with you. I finally found my miata last year. 93 with 130k miles. Slightly dented passenger quarter. Ripped soft top. Front main seal oil leak. Original goddam shocks and springs. BUT it had all the records and had never been modified. I paid 3k and feel lucky. So far I have another 2.5k into it but most of that was the new top and Flyin Miata Stage 2.5 suspension.
That’s my best advice. Look for something tired but unmodified and fix it up. I could have paid 6k for a cleaner lower mileage example, but I like that I got to pick suspension and work on it a bit.

Eeyup, lotta fuckboys are buying up NAs to stance them. You need to up your budget to 6k$ to find a clean, potentially trouble-free NA and at that point you might as well start looking at decent NBs.
